LOG

26 August
0930 Locked out of Portishead Quays after almost forgetting one of our crew who jumped aboard literally as we left the pontoon.  Sighted porpoises off the Monkstone.  Wind freshened on approach to Barry and tore foresail along a seam from clew to luff.
1400 Entered Barry Harbour for the night (foresail repaired by 0130).

27 August
0900 Left Barry Harbour for start of race with ‘Olga’.
1000 Start, fresh breeze WSW 2 rolls in mainsail and reefed foresail.
1730 Made low water at Copperas Rock and dropped anchor to let the foul tide run off.
1930 Weighed anchor and short tacked to the outer mark, Horseshoe Buoy.
2200 Rounded Horseshoe Buoy in a freshening breeze and ran to the West Scarweather (17 nm).

28 August
0000 Gybed around the West Scar and commenced the homeward run to Barry.  Strengthening wind, more rolls in the mainsail and rather than risk an accidental gybe lee tacked to Barry.
0545 Crossed finish line 1 hr 5 mins ahead of ‘Olga’.  Sailed to Penarth marina for 0700 lock in.
