1530 locked out of Portishead Quays set main and foresail only and joined ‘Peggy’ off Avonmouth.
Beam wind up to Lydney, arrived early on the tide so gybed and stemmed the tide for 20 minutes before dropping the gear.
1830 SARA 1 & SARA 2 (lifeboat RIBs) sounded ‘Mascotte’ over the sands and into the entrance. Large crowd waiting on pierhead.
Noted how flood tide creates a ‘cushion’ against the pierhead lessening the potential for serious damage should you not get into the entrance at the first attempt.
1905 Locked into Lydney to be joined by ‘Peggy’ and ‘Olga’ (arrived from Sharpness).
Spent weekend repairing torn clew of the foresail. Talk given by Malcolm McKeand on cutters celebrating centenaries this year, ‘Frolic’ and 'Lettie'
