23 June
0600 Locked out of Portishead Quays. Set all sail and turned down channel in light south westerly. Arrived Barry 1100 and dressed overall as a trial run for the festival (got it right after 2 attempts). Left Barry 1730 under main and foresail, set jib and tops’l once clear. Salmon leapt out of the water no more than 20’ from the boat, probably to see where it was going, wind SW4.
24 June
0600 Caldey Island abeam. Wind fell light at St Gowan’s Shoal, started engine, now christened the ‘noisy sail’. Dropped anchor at Dale 1130. Arrived Milford Dock 1630 and lay alongside ‘Kaskelot’ and ‘Earl of Pembroke’.
25 June
Lazy day, walked many miles to Sandy Haven and back but discovered strawberry teas at Herbranston. Moved cutter alongside ‘Peggy’ ahead of the ‘Dunbrody’.
26 June
Free sail in the Haven, sailed in company with ‘Peggy’ and ‘Jan Rawlin’ for most of the day and motored up to Black Tar. Awarded Concours d’elegance by le Semaine Golfe du Morbihan and motored back to Neyland Yacht Haven for the night.
27 June
BCPCOA race to Turbot Bank and back, ‘Peggy’ won in light airs. Lugger ‘Grace’ came alongside following a trip up from Cornwall.
28 June
BCPCOA race to Skomer South Haven (distance 11nm), ‘Mascotte’ won in light airs. Sailed back to Dale for an evening hosted by Dale Sailing Club in their recently revamped clubhouse.
29 June
BCPCOA race to Turbot Bank, Skokholm and back. Race cancelled due to heavy fog. Sailed the rest of the day in the Haven in perfect sailing conditions, fog remained outside.
30 June
0800 left Milford Haven for an uneventful sail back to Portishead, arrived 0700 following morning.
